Celebrating birthdays: A ritual that matters

Hello Chasers,

Today, as I celebrate another year, I also celebrate reflecting on what has occurred over the past 12 months and plan for the things I want to achieve in the next.

Birthdays are a special time of year for people of all ages. They are a day to celebrate the anniversary of our birth and to reflect on the past year. Birthdays can also be a time to look forward to the future and to set new goals for ourselves.

There are many reasons why celebrating birthdays is important.

Birthdays remind us of the gift of life. Every birthday is a milestone that marks another year that we have been alive. It is a day to be grateful for all of the blessings in our lives, including our family, friends, and health. I often think of my Mum & Dad, but on my birthday even more so. The family life I was privileged to be given and the sacrifices they made so that I could have a good foundation and education for life as an adult.

Birthdays help us to appreciate our loved ones. Birthdays are a special opportunity to show our loved ones how much we care about them. We can do this by sending them birthday cards or gifts, spending time with them, or simply telling them how much we love them. I was surrounded by family and close family friends last night at a special home dinner arranged by Angela and two of our girls, as Alli had to work in Geelong.

Birthdays help us to reflect on our past year and to set goals for the future. On our birthdays, we can take some time to reflect on the past year and to think about what we want to achieve in the upcoming year. This can help us to stay focused and motivated on our goals.

  • I look back on my health goals – exercise, diet, rest and holidays.
  • I look back at my wealth goals – savings, investing, superannuation contributions.
  • I look back at our family goals – holidays, milestones and achievements.
  • I look back at our giving goals – volunteering, contributions and donations.

Did I achieve those goals, where did I excel and where do I need to make a bigger effort to focus?

Birthdays are fun! Birthdays are a day to celebrate and to have fun. We can spend our birthdays doing things that we love, such as spending time with family and friends, eating our favourite foods, or doing our favourite activities. I intend to chill with the family watching a movie, playing board games or just looking through photo albums and reminiscing with the girls about their childhoods and sharing the funny stories.

No matter how you choose to celebrate your birthday, the most important thing is to enjoy yourself and to make it a day to remember.

No matter how you choose to celebrate, make sure you spend some time to reflect on those wonderful things you have done to this point in your life.

Have a great day!

I know I will.

PS – and thank you for your making my life richer by simply being part of it.
