Hello Chasers,

Optimising our website also includes making sure it is robust enough to withstand spamming, hacking and other technological attacks by those who have nothing better to do than create problems for others.

Domain spoofing is a type of cyber-attack where an hacker impersonates a legitimate domain name to trick users into believing they are interacting with a trustworthy website or email.

Another common form of ‘phishing’ (cyberattacks that attempt to steal your identity by getting you to reveal personal information) occurs when an attacker appears to use a business’s domain name to impersonate that business or one of its Team members. This can be done by sending emails with false domain names which appear legitimate, or by setting up websites with slightly altered characters that read as correct.

Now in the busyness of our day-to-day routines, it is very easy to overlook some of these small changes and we need to be ever vigilant, particularly when an invoice has been sent to us for urgent payment!

Here are a couple of things you can do to avoid these attacks:

  1. Keeping your anti-malware software updated and training your team to be wary of these tactics can go a long way towards preventing spoofing attacks.
  2. Making sure that as many computing resources as possible are behind a firewall is a good place to start in avoiding IP spoofing.
  3. Use an IT specialist to monitor your networks for atypical activity, deploy packet filtering to detect outgoing packets with source IP addresses that don’t match your organisations, use a network attack blocker and verification methods even with networked computers, and authenticate all IP addresses.
  4. Your Team can lessen the risk of endangering your brand safety and falling victim to spoofing by only visiting sites that use secure encryption protocols like HTTPS.
  5. Find out from an IT specialist if they know of any deception technology that focuses on early detection while providing actionable data for businesses. The attacker is flooded with decoy credentials and information that are embedded with tracking mechanisms triggered when the attacker opens them. This sends important information on the attacker to the business and makes it difficult for the attacker to figure out what information is real and what isn’t.

It pays to have a website specialist that understands these issues to make sure your online presence is fully optimised and just doesn’t only look good. It’s not a matter of if you get spoofed but when – so for ‘extra insurance’ for your business get the right spoofing protection solution in place.

We have a special arrangement with one of our business coaching services affiliates – Kody Thompson from Lightning Sites. Kody is a website expert, and his business has built thousands of impressive sites (including ours that is fully optimised and monitored 24/7) and is willing to help our Chasers Tribe achieve greater success.

If you want a new, responsive and fully optimised website reach out to Kody.

Have a great day!
