  5. On the 17th Day of Christmas …

Hello Chasers,

As Australians today mark their calendars and see Christmas just one week away (or as the kids say – “8 sleeps!”), a great strategy for those of us that run a small business is to think local and make this year’s Christmas a merry one indeed for our local community small businesses.

As we start planning for the festive season, buying gifts and groceries, now is the most important time to shop local and support small businesses.

We encourage our family, friends and team to buy gifts or their Christmas Day supplies from those small businesses that use our services and support us during the year.

This strategy is very easy to implement – make a list of all of your customers from your CRM system or if you don’t have one brainstorm this with your Team and then identify the business that they operate eg stationer, butcher, nursery, giftware etc. Then make sure your family, friends and Team know where to do their Christmas shopping by posting on social media examples of purchases you have made.

For many businesses, the festive season is the lifeblood that keeps shopfronts open, jobs local and services close to home for all of us.

By helping to generate additional sales for your own customers you are also enhancing the opportunity the festive season gives many young people, those in the casual workforce and businesses which are new or expanding, given the increased trade.

So many young people get their start in retail trade because of the money we spend locally at Christmas time. Many businesses take risks and make investments because the dollars which flow this time of year make it possible. Tourist operators, restaurants and other businesses make decisions to operate locally because of the opportunity our local multiplier effect can create for the local economy.

I’m issuing a challenge to the Chasers this Christmas – think local, shop small and use your customer’s businesses (especially our Chaser tribe’s businesses!). Through your support and the hard work of our local small businesses, this can be a merry Christmas for local jobs and for our community.

As a small business owner, you can do your bit to impact our local economy!

So have a look at your customer list and see who on there has a small business that you could purchase your Christmas gifts from.

Not only will you be seen to be helping them out financially too but the loyalty factor can be increased as a result.

Don’t stop there, your friends and family could be encouraged to do that too! Helping out our local economy financially will increase its financial vibrancy – it’s a win/win for everyone.

Have a great day!
